Biology Challenge

Two Year 12 students in Holy Cross College were awarded a gold certificate in the 2012 Biology Challenge.  Mia Gillespie and Alison Early were just two of over 30,000 students who took part in the nationwide online competition organised by the Society of Biology to promote National Science and Engineering Week. The aim of the Biology challenge is to encourage an interest in Biology beyond the school curriculum and stimulate curiosity in the natural world. Questions were set on the Biology topics covered in school but the Challenge also aimed to reward those students whose knowledge of the subject had been increased by reading books and magazines, watching natural history programmes and taking notice of the news media for items of biological interest. Head of Biology, Miss Anna-Marie McCloy, said 'This is a tremendous achievement for Mia and Alison as only the very top students from the 30,000 entries received the gold certificate.  It is the first year that we have taken part in the Challenge and the results reflect the wide range of talents among the pupils of Holy Cross College'.
